January
Peek at ~ January 25-29 Coming home are report card, portfolio, and assessment result sheet. Please look through the portfolio, but please do not remove any papers, many will be used in your child's cumulative folder. (I am missing three children's materials from quarter one. If you have the portfolio from first quarter please return that also.) If you would like to discuss your child's progress please call or e-mail me (smeserve@sad37.org). I am pleased with the mid-year assessments. We will continue to move into more sounds, high-frequency words, and numbers to 30. We are through the pre-decodable books that focus on high-frequency words (there are 34 words). Please read and reread these with your emergent reader. Our next set of books will actually look easier, but are decodable books where the children need to sound-out the words. Just another reminder ~ we will have Gym on both Wednesday and Friday, so remember sneakers. Boots and socks are not acceptable footwear for Physical Education. Tuesday will be an Early Release day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 after an 11:00 lunchtime. MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY
Can you believe we are beginning the second half of the year??? Wow, time has past by quickly. You will be amazed at all your child has accomplished. Rank cards and portfolios will come home on Friday, January 22nd. Please take time to browse through and let your child share the portfolio with you, especially his/her journal. (Please make sure journals come back on Monday so we will have them.) After sharing the portfolio (please do not remove any work) return it on Monday . Some of the work will be placed in your child's cumulative portfolio and the rest will sent home to you. As always if you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress to date, please call me (or e-mail me) and we will set up an appointment. The BIG news for the third quarter is we will have Gym with Mr. Elliot on Fridays also. So we will have two Physical Education classes a week. The children are very excited. With day 83 gone, we are quickly approaching day 100! We do a lot of coordinated activities with the other grades to mark this benchmark. This year we are trying to raise 100 cans of food in each class for the local food pantry. Children can begin to bring cans in anytime. This is purely voluntary. MONDAY ![]() January 11-15 Everyone seems to have had a wonderful Christmas break. Hopefully, amid the snowflakes, everyone can get back into the routine. We are going to begin to rapidly move through the sounds of the alphabet in Reading. If possible, review letters, sounds, and high-frequency words often with your emergent reader. We will be screening this week. (Can you believe the quarter ends on Friday?) We are halfway through the year. Wow!) Mrs. Reynolds is no longer available to do the library with the children on Tuesdays. We are looking for a volunteer to do Grades K-2 on Tuesday afternoons. Let me know if you are interested. As we approach the 100th day of school, we are beginning a campaign of “100 cans for 100 Days”. This is purely voluntary, but we hope to collect 100 cans of food in each class for our 100th day of school. The food will be donated to the local food pantry. MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY Have a great weekend. Remember - no school on Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. January 4 -8 Happy
New Year to all and welcome 2010! (Someone's teacher turned another
year older on New Year's Day.) MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY |
