Homework (Journal) and Organization:

Students will be supplied with a personal journal.This journal is provided for students to complete their homework assignments. It should provide evidence of time spent on weekly assignments (approximately 30 minutes per week). In addition to assigned activities it may contain ideas and inspirations, especially as they pertain to the field of art. This journal is, in essence, a scrapbook of ideas that students can draw from in their future work.

It is important for artists to maintain the regular ritual of keeping a sketchbook/journal, not just for assignments or projects, but to keep an ongoing dialog with thoughts and ideas. This collection then becomes a vault of invaluable discovery of ideas for formal purposes (such as assignments), as well as a place to catalog thoughts, processes, reactions, ideas, etc.

Journals will be reviewed for assignment completion on due dates. STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR JOURNAL TO EACH CLASS. Students will use it for notes and as an activity for 'down-time'.

If the original journal becomes lost, the student will be required to purchase a replacement.

In addition to the journal, students will be expected to maintain a 3-ring binder or pocket folder, in which they will keep this syllabus and all handouts and assignment sheets (dated and in order). Organizational skills are useful life skills. Careful organization of class materials not only allows students to practice this life skill, but ultimately well-organized class materials assist in student success.
