1st & 5th Periods--Next week we will begin reading The Crucible, a play by Arthur Miller.  You have already learned
a little about the historical context for Miller's writing of the play--the 1950's and the "red scare."  Today we will watch
a bit of Three Sovereigns for Sarah, a film based upon the true story of the Salem witch trial which utilizes
the actual transcripts to tell the story of one woman's efforts to clear her sisters' names.  Please read the handout which
provides you with information about the film and a tiny insight into Miller's inspiration for the play.  While watching the movie,
please make note of what you learn--what was life like in the 17th C. in Massachusetts, the people--secular & religious life ?  Try
to get a feeling for the time period.  This is NOT a film of the play, The Crucible.  This film WILL help you visualize and
understand the historical context for the events depicted in the play.

You do NOT have to turn in a current events summary today.  You are responsible for ONLY ONE summary for the next
two weeks.  If you have a summary already completed, turn it in, then you do NOT have one due next week.  If you do not have
a summary completed, you have until next week to hand it in.  I will talk to you about the Quarter One Mini Research Paper
