--Choose one of the following topics to research; "The cult of suburbia"--what is a suburb, what do they look like, how did they come to be, what
effect does living in a suburb have on the inhabitants?  1970's culture--politics, music, society, fashion, current events--what would it be like to be
a teenager growing up in the '70's?  Challenged & banned books--what does it mean, who does it, how do schools, teachers, librarians, and others
respond/react?  Take notes and write 400-500 words explaining what you learn.  DO NOT plagiarize--DO NOT copy and paste!  Summarize,
paraphrase, quote and cite your sources.--Due Wednesday.

Period 1--Assignment--"Read & Write Something."  With a partner, divide chapter 2 of The Lovely Bones into four sections; stop reading after each section and comment, question, etc.
Exchange with your partner and respond to each other's comments.  (Complete chapter one first if you haven't already)  Please do not take the books with you.
The Vocab. quiz will be moved to Wednesday or Friday.
Period 5--Read the handout posted on 2/26--the Instructions and Stems for "Read and Say Something/Write Something."  Choose a partner; each person read Chapter one of
The Lovely Bones
silently, stopping every four or five paragraphs (decide together where to stop), write a comment, question, etc.  Exchange papers with your partner and
respond to his comment--continue this throughout the chapter until you have finished it.  Your purpose for reading is to
get to know the narrator--what is she like--what
do you think of her?

Review vocab.--choose five of the 10 words and compose an original sentence for each based upon your reading of The Lovely Bones (TLB).
Discuss Chapter One of TLB.  What is the narrator like?  Be sure to keep the historical context of the novel in mind--mid 1970's.
