| DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY |
Do
you want to take better pictures? Do you want to learn more
about your camera? Photography, like other art mediums, has
a vocabulary all its own as well as its "tricks of the
trade." As a non-verbal language it allows us to
increase our visual perception and is a medium for creative
expression and storytelling. In this class, students will produce original work (using a digital camera and photo editing software). Students will learn techniques and strategies to create better pictures. Student will explore photography from multiple perspectives, such as the fine arts photographer, the commercial photographer, the outdoor photographer, sports photographer, fashion photographer, photojournalist, and others. Students will examine and create their visual images and stories in the formats of the still photo, photo essay, photo biography, and photographic documentary. Through the brief study of the photographic work of others (history of photography), and the fundamental elements and principles of art, students will develop a base for making informed judgments about content and composition in their photographs. Using vocabulary from the photographic arts, students will have opportunities to discuss and critique their own work and the work of their peers and professionals. |
