MSAD #37 PROCEDURES FOR EVALUATION OF COACHES Purpose: To establish a procedure by which constructive evaluation of coaching effectiveness may take place. Evaluation: The Athletic Director is responsible for evaluating head coaches in relationship to their respective interscholastic athletic responsibilities. Assistant coaches will be evaluated by their respective head coaches and Head coaches may choose to have their assistants evaluated by the athletes. Student athletes will complete the “Coaches Performance Evaluation for Players and Coaches” and return it to the AD. It is important that the athletes respect the coach(es), and feel that they are having a positive experience. The Athletic Director must be informed to understand whether the coach(es) are perceived as meeting the needs of the athletes. The athletes can best answer questions regarding individual and athlete-coach rapport; the coaches’ ability to communicate knowledge to the athletes; the coaches' ability to motivate athletes; and the extent of team cohesiveness. Although the perceptions may not be unanimous among the entire squad, assessment is generally valuable when evaluation is carried out and analyzed over a period of time. Procedure: Team Member Responses
The Athletic Director Response · The Athletic Director response will include all input from various participants in the evaluation process.
At the completion of each season, squad members on the official roster will receive a "Coaches’ Performance Evaluation for Players and Coaches." The results of this and other phases of the evaluation process will be discussed in a confidential meeting with the AD. If you are an assistant coach you are to submit a separate "peer assessment" form on your head coach directly to the AD. All such assessments will be confidential in nature and the results will be blended with student responses to assure anonymity. Head coaches will evaluate their assistants. Approved: February 28, 2007 |
