Dear Narraguagus Students & Community,
This letter is to inform you that we have just learned that one individual associated with Narraguagus Jr/Sr High School has tested positive for COVID-19. This person was present at the school last week. This person did not ride the bus.
As instructed by the Maine Centers for Disease Control (MCDC), we have completed contact tracing regarding this incident. The school nurse and/or administration have spoken with all close contacts. If you did not receive a call, then no one in your family was determined to be a close contact. Those who were in close contact are expected to quarantine for the MCDC-recommended 10 calendar days. Please note that a negative test result does not release an individual from quarantine, which must be maintained for the entire 10 day period.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Narraguagus Jr/Sr High School building will be closed this week. All athletic practices are cancelled. Note that this is for Narraguagus Jr/Sr High School only; the elementary schools will remain open.
Narraguagus will have a remote learning day for the Maroon group on Monday, December 21 and for the White group on Tuesday, December 22. Students should look for an email from teachers with Google Meet invitations. Any students who are quarantining will be able to attend school remotely. Students who are not able to connect for their classes will be able to make up the work.
Bag lunches will be available both days. Please call the school at 483-2746, ext. 3 before 9:30 AM with your request. Families can pick up the lunch by driving up to the front entrance between 10:30-11:00 AM.
We continue to ask all families to monitor students for any symptoms. Individuals should call a health care provider if they develop symptoms. It is important to call a healthcare facility before showing up in person if symptoms appear.
People should stay home when they are sick. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that ranges from mild to severe. The virus mainly spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes and an uninfected person breathes in the virus. Signs and symptoms include the following:
fever or chills;
cough;
shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;
fatigue;
muscle or body aches ;
headache;
new loss of taste or smell;
sore throat;
congestion or runny nose; and/or
nausea or vomiting or diarrhea.
While it is rare for cases to spread inside a school setting due to diligent masking and the observance of other safety practices, we are thoroughly investigating and will communicate with you if there is any new information.
